I think I am just about to take my mediocre game up a notch. I have entered the British Chess Championships 2022 (Over 50s category). It runs from 8th August at the Riviera Hotel in Torquay.
Let’s be clear, there’s no minimum grading to enter! But that’s OK because I don’t have an official grading from the English Chess Federation anyway! But entering this should get me a grading… or at least a better estimate of my grade. That in itself will be worth doing.
Even BETTER is that I am giving a lift to Stewart Reuben, a Chess book author and a long-time organiser of chess championships, including the time that Nigel Short challenged Garry Kasparov for the world championships at the Savoy Theatre in London. watching one of those matches live was one of the most memorable days of my life!
I mean… if you are a fan of chess, who wouldn’t relish a 4-hour drive with a person that played Bobby Fischer at least twice? I am hoping he will sign this book I bought last century.
